Cherry Creek State Park - Denver, CO

After acquiring the Bambi, we took our first camping trip to Cherry Creek State Park, just outside Denver, CO. It was mid March and weather that weekend was a bit rainy, but not bad. It may have dampened the outside of the camper, but not our spirits.
Early in the season, this park is quiet and uncrowded, but as summer nears it can be busy and hard to find a spot due to its proximity to the Denver Metro area. So, this was a good time of year to visit in spite of the gloomy weather.

One of my favorite things to do when camping is to cook a big breakfast to start the day. We enjoyed pancakes, bacon, and eggs, but I have now started watching the bacon more closely because it doesn't take much to set off the smoke alarm. One trick I've learned since then, is to put a Glad elastic food cover over the alarm while cooking. It keeps the alarm from going off, but you have to remember to remove it when finished.

We enjoyed lounging around inside the trailer and watching movies while it rained. When the weather eventually cleared, we hiked down to the beach and watched folks doing some early season boating on the reservoir.

All in all this is a very nice campground that is easy to get to and close to Denver attractions, and it has many sites with full hookups. We look forward to coming back later in the season.
